The App Store passes the 40 billion downloads

Apple announced that it had crossed the symbolic threshold of 40 billion downloads recorded on its store applications.

Apple still has an edge over Google. The Apple brand has announced that it surpassed the 40 billion applications downloaded via its online store. In total, the Cupertino company has paid developers to 7 billion dollars.

The App Store has particularly strong growth last year, Apple said. Indeed, in 2012, the group recorded nearly half of total application downloads for iPhones, iPads and iPods.

Play overtaken by Google

Moreover, the online store has a new record last December, with nearly 2 billion copies of purchased software. "This has been an incredible year for the community of developers for iOS" Eddy Cue, the One of the leaders of the App Store.

Present in 155 countries, the Apple Store now has over 500 million active accounts and 775,000 applications available. For its part, the Google Play remains slightly above applications with 800,000, but announced that it has surpassed the 25 billion last September (against 20 billion in June). The number of downloads should have exceeded 30 billion early this year. If Apple still maintains its leading position in this field, the gap is narrowing gradually.
